Studio Lighting Techniques:

    Learn to prep, prop and primp your ideas in a controlled environment. Choose camera position and work with a shot until it speaks. Discussion will surround the set up, control and composition in a studio location. We will select props and light an image to our advantage, all the while discussing why and what we hope to make work, then expose the image and discuss why it works and what it is working to achieve. It is helpful to understand basic photography during this seminar but, all are welcome to learn and enjoy, share some from looking at the masters and create your own still photographs. Bring your camera to class with a short telephoto lens. The objective for each participant will be to find a working order, light an effect expose a meaningful still life image.

Adobe Photoshop ~ The First Step

    Adobe Photoshop is a powerful image editing application. During this seminar participants will learn the basic tools from the menu to the tools and the palettes that set in motion this most successful creative program in post image processing. We will review how to adjust your image, set color correctly, simple retouching and restoration and then briefly touch on layers and composting. We will conclude with some discussion on the best ways to store, edit, and print photographs point each participant onto a clearer path to learning further. Adobe Photoshop is the most exciting change to occur since emulsion was put to gelatin and the first step to improving the quality of the final print.

Framing Photography

Presentation of the photograph adds a finite step to the process. Whether it is to hang prints in a home or a gallery, give them as gifts, or exhibit them in shows, the right choice of mat and frame adds power to the image. Materials to preserve your images becomes a critical choice at many framing levels. The choices made will complement the photographs and will reveal significance in the work.

Making choices to fame work "as a masterpiece" is essential in this workshop. Learn how to cut mats and choose the right frames, quickly and economically. We will provide easy resources to do-it-yourself with cut mats and pre assembled frames. We will discuss three levels of framing—basic/inexpensive to higher quality presentations - how to choose between them and when to make those choices.

Eliminate the mystery to matting and framing your photographs. Through a series of easy steps, leave this workshop with the knowledge to show your work proudly and often!

Objective: To learn to custom mat and frame your finished photographs to show them to their best advantage with preservation as a key consideration.

This can include personal choices combined with the camera available and recognizing the significance that a subject has to the photographer. We will discuss the response to images and understanding what qualities are given and what qualities are not. We will consider the working medium, the lens, the color and the contrast of the subject. We will discuss the how to’s and the why to’s of making it better. Then, we will learn to recognize and interpret choices for personal vision.

The Digital Camera - point & click to the DSLR...

Digital has come of age. In this workshop we will discuss what to look for, how to make it work and where to get more information, in the cloudy camera market today.

Following with traditions of photography, there is incredible change in camera manufacturing. It is indeed an exciting time. Progress is being made daily, larger files for capture, seamless exposures, in camera color manipulations. The times are unlike we have ever known.

The software to process the result is making fantastic still photographs. Choices and settings allow more control than has ever in the past. This workshop is for 5 hours, nothing but the camera. We start by understanding what the we need to know about all these cameras from the history and physics laws of photography. Participants will learn to understand what they are doing when the button gets pushed. Call it progress or call it fluff, butt the cameras today are exploring new unfound images. This workshop will be brand specific. We will mention names and types of cameras and where to look further for camera information. Learn about the latest progress being made. What settings to control and when and what to leave on automatic. Learn how to set the camera for specific types of photography.

After diving into the changes in digital discussion will progress to the purpose of certain types of cameras, their strengths and weakness for achieving the best photographs. Participants will leave knowing what camera will best suit their particular type of photographic desire. We will have you shooting pictures to learn about your camera so bring them along.
